The National Matches and Small Arms Firing Schools are annual national events established by Congress and President Roosevelt in 1903. The National Matches continue to be authorized by federal law. National Trophy Pistol Match week begins with the Pistol Small Arms Firing School and the M9 Pistol EIC Match. The week concludes with the National Trophy Pistol Matches on 13 July.
Junior shooters fire the National Trophy Pistol Matches with .22 cal. pistols.
