The following biography was written by Association of National Guard Marksman

LTC Tryce (Ret) has made numerous contributions to both the State of Texas and the National Guard Marksmanship Program. He served as assistant State Marksmanship Coordinator (SMC) (1984-2000). He made significant advances to the state program by introducing both Lignt Machine Gun (LMG) and sniper competitions, as well as updating the rifle and pistol programs to reflect combat focused competition. He encouraged the participation of United States Army Reserve (USAR), United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR), and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in the state Adjutant General (AG) matches. He also updated the state's marksmanship regulation which was subsequently emulated by other state marksmanship programs. In the last years of his assignment as SMC, he focused on improving combat readiness of units through PMIs and train-the-trainer classes for those units deploying overseas. He continuously promoted the Texas marksmanship program to the TAG and his key staff officers which resulted in the TAG or the assistant TAG attending numerous Winston P. Wilson (WPW) award ceremonies.

He served on Marksmanship Training Unit PAT teams dealing with the future of the National Guard marksmanship program and ammunition management. In addition, he serves as a member of the Marksmanship Advisory Counsel (MAC) and was selected as SMC of the year in 1999. He is a graduate of Small Arms Instruction and Operation Course (SAIROC) and Marksmanship Mobile Training Course (MMTC).

He acted as OIC for both the International Shotgun Team and All Guard Service Rifle Team. During his tenure, he was able to increase the budgets of both programs and purchase new equipment for the Service Rifle Team. The Service Rifle Team won numerous individual and team awards during his appointment.

Finally, as a member of the Texas State Guard, he currently acts as advisor to the All Guard Service Rifle Team and has been responsible for coordinating cost effective train-ups at Camp Swift Texas for the All Guard Rifle Team. He also oversees the coordination for acquisition of M1 Garands for retiring members of the All Guard Service Rifle Team at its yearly banquet held at Camp Perry, Ohio.

His legacy is a vibrant and extremely competitive state marksmanship program that has produced several individual champions in both domestic and international competition and two national team championships at WPW (2002-2003). He created an environment of collaboration between the Texas marksmanship program and the Marksmanship Training Unit which still exists today. He continues to be actively involved in National Guard Marksmanship. He is Double Distinguished.
