The following biography was written by Military Marksmanship Association

Double Distinguished Colonel Allan Raymond Bacon USMC (RET) died June 30, 2009 at the age of 61 in Huntsville, Alabama. Colonel Bacon was employed by General Dynamics Information Technology and worked for the Director of Engineering of the Missile Defense Agency where he was the Operational Baseline Champion of the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System. He served for thirty years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel in 2002. Bacon graduated Marine Basic School in 1972, leading to duty at Headquarters Marine Corps; Camp Pendleton, California; Camp LeJeune, North Carolina; Parris Island, South Carolina; Quantico, VA and Okinawa, Japan. He served as an Infantry Company Commander, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, and saw service as an Aerial Observer in Marine Observation Squadron Six (VMO-6) following service as an Infantry Platoon Leader in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. A Distinguished Rifle and Pistol shot and a member of the President’s Hundred, he obtained a Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State University in 1972. Colonel Bacon was a Commercial Pilot and an Instrument Rated Flight Instructor; a disaster services volunteer for the Red Cross, and avid Amateur Radio Operator, call sign W6GBG.
