The following biography was written by Jim Crossman
Marcus Dinwiddie was one of the earliest rifleman to earn Distinguished as a civilian when he was awarded the badge in 1925.
A year ealier he was a member of the 1924 US Olympic Shooting Team at the Paris Games. At age 17 he was still a schoolboy and, at that time, the youngest person to gain membership on a US international team. He had learned to shoot on the District of Columbia National Guard range
Although without international experience he was undisturbed by the setting and importance of the match. He proceeded to make mincemeat out of the Olympic Standing Record set in 1920 by US shooter Larry Nuesslein. His 396 stood until the very end of the match when it was eclipsed by two points and he was awarded the silver medal. He was, until Kim Rhode won a gold in Atlanta in 1996, the youngest US shooter to medal in Olympic competition.
