The following biography was written by Hap Rocketto

Double Distinguished shooter David S. McDougal, USMC, wa a member of the Naval Academy class of 1933. He won the Clark Trophy in 1929, Team Captain of the winning Elliot Trophy Team in 1936, the Crowell Trophy in 1938, the USMC Asiatic Division Rifle Championship in 1938 and 1939. He was a member of the USMC Team in 1937 and shot on the National Championship Team in 1940.

During World War II LTC McDougal was wounded in action on Guadalcanal on 1942, while commanding the 3/5 during the New Britain campaign, and mortally wounded on June 14, 1945 on Okinawa.

He was the son of fellow Distinguished shooter Major General Douglas C. McDougal, USMC.
