The following biography was written by HQ USMC

First Sergeant Dexter Conrad was born in Huntington West Virginia on 20 November 1965. He enlisted in the Marine Corps 24 January 1987 and reported to recruit training at MCRD Parris Island in February 1987. Following recruit training he reported to Camp Lejeune, NC for Basic Warehousing School.

Private First Class Conrad graduated Basic Warehousing School (MOJT) as the class Honor Graduate. He reported to 2ND Assault Amphibian Battalion for duty as a basic warehousing clerk. From December 1987 to October 1992 he served as Delta Company warehouse assistant chief and Basic Assault Amphibian Crewman and Crew chief. During this period PFC Conrad was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal and Corporal and deployed to Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Provide Comfort as an Assault Amphibian Crew Chief. Upon returning from Southwest Asia he made a lateral move into the aviation field.

Corporal Conrad reported to the Aviation Supply Mechanized Course in Meridian Mississippi in October 1992. In January 1993 he graduated again as the Honor Graduate and reported to Mals-14 for duty as an Aviation Supply Clerk. In March 1992 he was transferred to MWHS-2 Marksmanship Training Unit and became Chief Instructor as well as Team member for the 2ND MAW Shooting Team. From April 1993 through December 1993 Corporal Conrad attended the Eastern Division Matches, All-Marine Corps Championships and was selected to augment the All-Marine Corps Pistol Team in 1992 and 1993, winning medals in each match as well as an Interdivision Team Championship, he went on to earn his Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge at the National Championships and was promoted to Sergeant.

In January 1994 Sergeant Conrad reported to MCAS Futenma, Okinawa Japan for duty with Mag-36. From January 1994 through January 1995 he was sent to Korea from Sept through December for Cobra Gold as the MAG fiscal liaison for all fiscal contracts. He was awarded a Certificate of Commendation and Meritorious Mast for these actions.

In January 1995 Sergeant Conrad reported to MAG-49 Detachment “A”, Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland for duty as Fiscal and Contracting Chief. From January 1995 through October 1997 he was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and two 4TH Marine Aircraft Wing, Fiscal Chief of the Year Awards.

In October 1997 Sgt Conrad reported to Weapons Training Battalion, MCCDC Quantico Virginia for duty with the All-Marine Corps Pistol Team as an Instructor/ Competitor. From October 1997 through October 2002 he was a key contributor to the development and implementation of the Marine Corps requalification procedures for both rifle and pistol. He was also responsible for implementing new pistol coaching techniques across the Marine Corps and was the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Instructional detail. During this period he served as SNCOIC of the All-Marine Pistol Team and the International Pistol Team, was a member of the 2000 United States CISM Team, was the 2001 All-Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Aggregate Champion, the 2001 All-Marine Pistol Champion and became a Distinguished Rifleman. Also during this period he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and Gunnery Sergeant. He attended the SNCO Resident course; Small Arms Weapons School given by the U.S. Army, the High Risk Personnel Course, and the FBI Academy ’s Advanced Instructor Course, Instructor training Course.

In October of 2002 Gunnery Sergeant Conrad reported to MCAS New River, NC for duty with Mals-26. He was first assigned Squadron Support Division Chief and later the Consumable Management Division Chief. From October 2002 until March 2006 he has deployed to Afghanistan as part of the 22nd MEU (SOC) where he was the Supply Chief for Mals-26 Detachment A. Upon returning from Afghanistan he was then deployed to Iraq for 12 months as the Consumable Management Division Chief, Mals-26 (REIN) OIF 04-06. During this period he attended the SNCO Advanced Resident Course, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for accomplishments during the Afghanistan Campaign and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for service in Iraq . He also served as the SNCOIC of the 2ND MAW Shooting Team based in Cherry Point , NC .

His personal awards include the Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon and the Humanitarian Service Medal. His shooting accomplishments include Distinguished Pistol Shot, Distinguished Marksman, CISM Team Silver Medal @ the French Open, General Lauchheimer Trophy, Walsh Trophy, Oglethorpe Trophy, 3 Inter-Division Trophies, 2 Inter-Corps Trophies and 1 International Record.
