The following biography was written by Association of Marksmen in the National Guard

Col Buster began shooting in the mid 60’s as a SP4. During this time he was all-American for four years at SW Missouri State College, while shooting for the Missouri National Guard. He was a member of the all guard pistol team from 1969 to 1988. Earning triple distinguished status, he was the first member of the Guard to earn this status, the 17th person in U.S. history to earn it and the only person to earn all three badges as a Guardsman. During his tenure he served as OIC of the all Guard International Team and the all guard pistol team. In the period 1973-1978 he was a member if the U.S. Shooting Team earning nine gold medals for his country. In 1977, he won gold in Mexico City and was the Pan-American Champ. He was a two time Winston P. Wilson Pistol Champ. Five time All Army Champ. Four time High National Guard Shooter at the National Championships at Camp Perry and held 52 national and international records. He was selected to command the MTU upon its move from Tennessee and was the founder of the AFSAM and the Interservice Combat Championships. From 1967-1995 he devoted his time, skills and knowledge to the Marksmanship program of the National Guard.
